Off the Map

For back country fishing head south from Mary Lake along Cold Water Creek, fishing your way toward Arrowhead Lake (about 2 miles) where you can find good fishing for rainbows. If you're feeling ambitious you can push on a little farther to Skelton Lake, Woods Lakes, Red Lakes and Barney Lake (about 4 miles). Most of those lakes have both rainbow and brook trout.

Crossing over 10,700' Duck Pass will take you to Duck Lake (5 miles from Lake Mary). Nestled at the foot of a line of serrated peaks, Duck Lake's deep-blue color seems to leap out at you. You'll find rainbows there between 11" and 15".
